葡萄牙语在国内属于小语种，目前尚未有一个全国统一的面向大众的葡语考试来测定学习者的葡语水准，但是，国际上有两种对葡语水平进行认定的葡语考试，也就是我们常说的CAPLE测试和Celp-bras测试。
CAPLE测试是由葡萄牙里斯本大学葡语考试中心专门为母语为非葡萄牙语的外国学生或人士举办的测试。2004年，澳门理工学院与该中心签署合作协议书，成立了澳门理工学院葡萄牙语测试中心。根据相关协议书内容，澳门理工学院葡萄牙语测试中心将会每年根据考生报名情况，于5月、 7月或11月举行CAPLE测试。该测试分为五个等级：初级葡萄牙语文凭测试（CIPLE）、基础葡萄牙语文凭测试（DEPLE）、中级葡萄牙语文凭测试（DIPLE）、高级葡萄牙语文凭测试（DAPLE）以及大学葡萄牙语文凭测试（DUPLE）。
